Wireless Qi Charging Standard has existed since 2010And it has changed quite a bit in those 15 years. What started to become a useless 5W standard has evolved widely into 15 W – not toasting fast, but still fast enough to make it profitable. And with the QI2 standard, the industry approved Apple’s Magsafe design. Since then, you have been able to buy chargers that magnetically form the wireless charging of the devices, so you don’t have to worry about downloading everything.
Qi2 has been a standard since 2023, and even when it started, it promised improvements on the road. In particular, the standard is developed by a wireless power consortium (WPC) that the QI2 15W power transfer will increase in the future, allowing for faster charging. Now, in 2025, it seems that these benefits are finally going on with Qi2.2, although most of the devices that support it (not to mention Qi2) are iPhones at this stage.
QI2.2’s 25w -benefit
Qi2.2, Officially recognized standard after AprilBuilds up to QI2, among other things, to provide energy transfers for up to 25 W while maintaining magnetic connections. With the right cable and power supply 25W would provide some fixed speed enhancements over 15 W. Apple’s iPhone 16, together its latest Magsafe charger and for example 30 W (15W Magsafe does the same in about 45 minutes.) Not bad wireless charging.
That magsafe disc is also Qi2, not Qi2.2. When we see Qi2.2 products hit the shelves, we see how well they work against Apple’s current Magsafe platform. (Apple is also supposedly Working in Qi2.2 Magsafe Chargers.)
What do you think so far?
However, it seems that third-party Qi2.2 chargers are closer than ever. As the Verge has statedWPC now has charging products that support Qi2.2. It contains:
None of these Qi2.2 is quite ready yet. For example, the Ugreen Power Bank, have been set for the fall 2025 publication. But it’s good to know that companies will make the ball move this new QI standard. Hopefully we will see these products earlier than later, and at the same time more support for QI2 and higher from smartphone manufacturers. Apple supports Qi2 with iPhone 12 and newerbut only HDM -Haivaanranta Currently supports Android’s standard.
