Lucid Air owners can soon use the Tesla Puperkatra -but there will be catch

Owners of Lucid Air Sedan can charge the luxury EVs at thousands of Tesla super charger stations in North America on July 31, almost two years after a car manufacturer’s contract. But there is a significant note: Lucid air vehicles are unable to charge as fast as Tesla vehicles.

On Tuesday, Lucid said that all clear air sedans, regardless of the model year, will reach the Tesla Fast Distributors with an approved adapter, which costs $ 220. Tesla V3 (and above) Superchange stations are compatible with a clear air adapter.

However, the air is capable of charging only 50 kW, which is considerably lower than the 250 kW top speed provided by these super chargers. The subject is due to the mismatch between Lucid’s 924 -volt charging system and 400 V Tesla chargers. Clear and any other EV 800 volt charging systems simply can’t load as fast as they could with their planned charger Consumer reports notes.

LUCID informant Andrew Hussey explained that engineers returned Air’s integrated charging system called Wunderbox, hardware to get the system to work and activate a 50 kW increase when using a super charging. He added that a clear look at the 50 kW download of Air as another option for owners who are on the road or live or work closer to the super charging.

Unlike the clear gravity, the air, which was launched earlier this year, is still built with a combined charging system (CCS). The CCS was considered the North American GO-To EV standard and all car manufacturers used one significant exception. Tesla developed its own charging standard, which includes a built-in charging port and an EV charging connector. In 2022, Tesla shared the EV charging connector designing to encourage network operators and car manufacturers to use technology and help with the new standard in North America.

Tesla calls the standard North American charging standard or NAC. In May 2023, Ford became the first car manufacturer to reach an agreement with Tesla, who would give EV owners access to the Supercharger network. Current Ford EV owners would use the adapter to use the Tesla network. But the Ford – and soon almost all other automators, including GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia and Toyota – also agreed

Lucid was one of the last companies that signed a contract with Tesla. And like the others, Lucid announced that it would have a built-in NACS charging port on the next EV, Gravity SUV.
