What’s up, besties? It’s a world smiley day, which means it’s time to look at a new smiley (or is it smiley?). A Send on their blog Nowadays, the Unicode consortium, a non -profit -striving, non -profit -winning set of non -profit, between your devices and applications, presented the next set of icon and expression. The group says Bend.
But what a lot it is: we have a music. We have a treasure. We have one of the old school cartoon battles in the clouds. And of course, we have a mystery. While new smileys have proven surprisingly political In the past, this update seems to focus on the public’s pleasure, and I would say it is doing a good job.
The list below is not all about the final Unicode 17.0, but we know so far:

Treasure chest

Orcan

Trombone

Struggle
-
The essence of the apple
-
Ballet dancers

Personally, my favorite is probably the Orca (I love to enlighten), but I want to pay special attention to the “distorted face”. It seems to be extreme .5 selfie but if you look at any amount of anime, there is a good chance you’ve seen it before – it looks a lot like that down the corner, fish eye close to shooting that many instructors use the character to show mental disintegration. So, you know, use it when a fast food place forgets curls potatoes or whatever.
I should also probably say what we all think: yes, the “hairy creature” is a big foot, right up to the poser. I’m not sure what if such a character has copyright concerns (it should be a public area, but “bigfoot” is also a product name), but it is not the first time that the Unicode consortium has been appropriately vague when it comes to intentional reference. It Gobl’s emojiFor example, the Tengu mask actually depicts a part of the real life of Japanese culture, which itself represents the creature of Japanese folklore.
Then there is “ballet dancers”. We only see one in the preview, but considering how the smiley has previously photographed different jobs and hobbies, we are likely to get a few iteration from this basic design at start -up.
What do you think so far?
In the meantime, the Unicode consortium really encourages you to send your own suggestions to smileys. Just know that the idea may take a while to accept and that you need to go through your own paperwork first.
Edit 07/18/2025: Added Unicode Consortic Preview of the “Landscape” smiley.
