In addition to paying a mortgage, owning a home includes a lot of other responsibilities, keeping it clean and representing all the infrastructure that makes it viable and safe. All this maintenance can be overwhelming – one survey found 68% of homeowners were seriously stressed home maintenance tasks.
It doesn’t have to be like that. One of the reasons for maintaining a home seems so terrifying how most of us approach it, assuming that the only way to make a home is the whole weekend (or longer) for huge projects. Home maintenance processes changes something to be avoided, the weekend and the accelerating nightmare. There is a much better approach: instead of putting it off and having full days or weeks to maintain your home, do it only five minutes every day.
Inspection
First of all, the discharge clause: Some of the tasks of home maintenance require way More than five minutes. You will not get the bathroom again or rest the lid in just five minutes.
But using five minutes to maintain a home gives you a long list of small but vital jobs that reduce the frequency of these larger jobs. Small repairs can prevent major problems, and regular maintenance of equipment and HVAC systems prevent and extend their life.
What do you think so far?
The secret is to prevent five minutes every day For home maintenance-and start with a five-minute evaluation of the house. Walk around and mark everything that needs attention – Loose, dyed stuff, scratched stuff, goods that no longer work or work properly. Every now and then, check for five minutes for certain areas – roof, basement/indexing, yard – which need a little more concentration. If you do a quick check whenever you do not have a particular project, you are on these small problems when they occur instead of finding much bigger problem weeks or months later.
Five -minute repairs
When a five -minute inspection indicates the problem, make it a five -minute repair of tomorrow. Here is a list of home care work that take only a few minutes but have a huge impact on your house and the frequency of larger repair and maintenance tasks:
-
Tighten the cabinet screws. The kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors see a lot of action. All this opening and closing can loosen hinges screws that may have a subtle effect on their function. After five minutes, you can check the hinges of the furniture and tighten all the loose screws you find. Suddenly, the doors do not swing open alone or rub against each other as you close them, reducing wear and tear and extending their life.
You can also tighten all the door hinges that have worked loose while standing there with screwdrivers in your hand.
-
Repair the walls of the walls. If your gypsum board has a tooth or a small hole, it is a very easy repair using the Patch series available in most hardware stores. It is admitted that the full repair takes more than five minutes or so it can be divided into two five minutes. Spread the patch first and spread the spackling compound on top of the instructions. The next day, lightly sand. Finally, paint over the patch. Five minutes a day in three days and the hole is gone.
-
Touch paint. Painting the whole room is a big project, but it will take a few minutes to cover a small scratch or repair unless you need to cut cutting or other obstacles. If you have a place in the middle of the wall that needs a goal hit, it is ideal for a five -minute repair.
-
Clean equipment. Keeping different devices in good shape is key – restoring them is expensive. Your dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and refrigerators only clean up for a few minutes and will significantly extend their service life.
-
Clean/replace the filters. Many of your house matters have filters and it takes only a few minutes to change/clean them. Do one day a week and your house smells better, better air quality, and everything lasts a little longer.
-
Lubricate the windows. If your windows stick a little, don’t just consider that they become immobile over time. The explosion of the dry lubricant of the stripes loose them and keeps them functional as new.
-
Attach the wallpaper seams. If you have a wallpaper for loose seams, ignoring it will lead to what researchers call the wallpaper failure. To prevent it, grab a bottle of seam glue and spread – a few minutes of your time and the wallpaper is like new.
-
Clear sewers. Reference until the sewer supports gross gray water in your life is not a way to live (but there is a way to level the plumber’s expensive visits). A series of emptying cleaning tools can tear the clogging of the drain in minutes, long before they become bad enough to cause damage.
-
Bleaching ceiling stains. If you had a small leak that left the stain on the ceiling, you may look at it every day and imagine how much work needed to repair. But it can only be taken care of in minutes. Mix one part of the bleach of five parts water in a spray bottle, stainblot and repeat. If you do not want to disturb so much effort, you can also buy a can “up” concentrate, which does a decent work by covering the stains on a white roof in about two minutes.
-
Clean climate. The faucet has a round device that is screwed in the head called air. It mixes water with air to make the current smooth (and reduce use). It can easily become clogged over time, limiting water pressure (or causing water flow in unpredictable ways. It is only a few minutes of actual work to break down.
-
Change Weatherstripping. The weather in the doorway is the insulation around the opening, which forms the sealing door closed, preventing sketches and a loss of cool/hot air. Like everyone else, it has to be changed from time to time (especially if it is visibly ratty). The work can only take five minutes like you can see here.
-
Remove home and mold. If your bathroom has become densely blossoming mold and mold space, replacing it is a fairly big job. But you can clean it in just minutes with such a product. Apply it in minutes, go to your company for a few hours when it sits on the premises, then return and wipe it off with a damp sponge.
-
Complete the tests. If you have nothing else on your five -minute repair list, test something. SUMP pumps, alarms, rarely used outlets-confirmation that everything in the house works because it should be a few minutes and can imply you for bigger problems that may be just underneath your nose.
