Amazon supports programmable optics to start Lumotive

Programmable optics boot Lithic has added a few strategic supporters to the recent B -series round.

Redmond, Lumotive, Washington, opened its recent B-series funding round to bring Amazon through the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund and Ithca Group, Oman Sovereign Fund as investors.

These recent funds will bring the company B to $ 59 million, when it was originally closed in February with $ 45 million Lumotive. Startup has so far earned more than $ 100 million in capital.

Sam Heidari, CEO of Lumotive, told Techcrunch that the startup saw much more demand for participating in a round than he originally predicted. Although the company had turned out some investors, he said it made sense to open it back to the Ithca Group and Amazon.

“Amazon, it has a lot of strategic value for us,” Heidari said. “We value a relationship more than money.”

The Lumotive Light Management Metasurface-State-State chips consist of a nano-scale pixel that can be electronically controlled to bend and manipulate light. These chips have a variety of use of autonomous vehicles that provide a smaller cost -effective alternative to Lidar, optical replacement places, such as data centers.

“It’s a change in paradigm when you can manipulate light electronically,” Heidari said. “The ability to shape the light, mix the light, form the beams as you want, focus on the light electrically. We can basically do what mirrors and engines do today, twist around the lights.”

Founded in 2018, the company started selling its chips in 2024 and says it has deliberately kept the clients’ list small and focused. Heidari said that new money will help it expand sales and marketing and put more money into research and development.

“It’s no longer a science project,” Heidari said of Lumotive’s technology. “It has been proven in the field of technology. We knew there was high demand for it. In addition to being able to work, it can work in the way you can.”
