Actress Lupita Nyong’o reveals she removes 30 uterine fibroids after history creates Oscars

“They can cause a lot of menstrual bleeding and anemia, pelvic pain, frequent urine and pregnancy complications.”

While some patients have no symptoms, others find them “debilitating.”

“Seven out of 10 black women and seven out of 10 white women experience fibroids. But we rarely say it.”

Nyong’o said that women are regulated from adolescence, “period means pain, and pain is just a part of the woman.”

She said she decided to share her condition during the fibroid awareness month.

“We struggle alone with what affects most of us. Silence no longer hurts.”

She called for early education for adolescents, better screening programs, and more research to reduce invasive treatments for fibroids.

The actress, once part of a gong-winning “Oscar Selfie,” also revealed she has travelled to Washington, D.C. to support the introduction of a bill package in the U.S. Congress, and she will soon launch the Lupita Nyong’o Uterine Fiber Research Grant with the Foundation for Women’s Health.
